Drawing Exercises

what is the best work-out for my martial art?

i do Goshin Jujitsu (a variation of jujitsu). I'm not out of shape, but i want to be that extra bit stronger, flexible and fit. Can anyone suggest any exercises which would complement this martial art well.

  1. I think that swimming, gymnastic or another martial art like Kung-Fu or Taekwondo would be great.
  2. Swimming.
  3. Probably not what you were thinking of, but yoga or pilates both compliment martial arts well, by improving core strength and flexibility simultaneously. A few well-known and excellent martial artists have done yoga exclusively rather than lifting weights, such as Rickson Gracie. Otherwise, Properly done weight training is one of the most effective ways to improve upper body and leg strength. High-intensity interval training is the best cardio conditioning workout i've encountered.
  4. swimming is the best. it works out your cardio and respiratory. it works every muscle in your body and burns fat.
  5. Good question. I suggest stretching and free weights. This should improve strength and elasticity for you. Yoga is very good for this as it should also improve balance and coordination. The one sport that I do NOT recommend is swimming. I don't know why, but in my experience I found that my joints would water log and become stiffer after a swim. For martial arts fighting any exercise that helps strengthen your upper body and improves torque should work for you. Push-ups work well with your upper body and pull ups (or chin ups) should help you with a good biceps work out. You may also wish to work on your obleques on your abs. This should help you develop good torque on your spinning kicks or lunge punches.
