What is a good martial art to take up for exercise?

Public Comments

  1. None. Any style of fighting - boxing, or martial arts...is serious, and its something people dedicate their lives to because they love it. its not for exercise. go workout or something..
  2. Kenpo. It's American Karate.
  3. Tai Chi is good for overall conditioning and doesn't involve contact or otherwise aggressive actions. It is slow and really relaxing as it is a system of slow exact moves that tone up the body and while not looking difficult will provide a mental and physical workout. It is not an aerobic workout but aids strength and overall conditioning.
  4. Any art will give you more exercise than doing nothing, but if you're looking for cardio...... KENDO. Guranteed to have you sweating at the end of every practice. Not cheap or for the faint of heart, though. Any martial art. Many dojos have instructors that may spend more time on cardio than other dojos of the same art. You've gotta shop in your area. Also, boxing and kick boxing give you a great cardio workout. But those aren't martial arts...
  5. for a workout i think kickboxing would be good. its a really good for your cardio .. some people take kickboxing just for the workout so its a good choice
  6. "Cardio Kickboxing" will get you sweating and build up your legs, lungs and endurance. Submission grappling will work all your muscles as you alternate between pushing and pulling with your arms and legs, and will totally knock you on your ass after a good roll. You will find yourself wanting to do supplemental resistance and cardio exercises so that you can grapple better. http://www.captainzorikh.com
  7. depends on your fitness expectations, for cardio id say schools heavy on sparring or motion like caporea . for flexibility most of the striking arts and soft styles should have emphasis. for strength or large slower type. boxing kickboxing wrestling grappling, but look around do your research for all around id say Karate types give a good balanced mix, where some types of "koreanized" arts like tai qwan do and tang soo do or Sip soo i know start off with "hard" techniques, then advance to soft , giving you a reealy good balence as graples and sutch are also taught at advanced and intermidiate as well as escapes.
  8. if your looking to get in shape and lose weight whatever. kickboxing preferably muay thai is best for that. the classes or training is high paced, and an extremely excellent cardio workout. it will get you into the best shape of your live.
