- just do the sort of things you do in class. there is a reason you do specific things in class
- stretching exercises, especially the inner thigh. it will help your side and roundhouse kicks. after you are able to comfortably lift your leg to waist height, hang a paper sheet from the ceiling and practise your techniques on it. A good strike will have a satisfying "crack" or "smack sound"
- The Book of Nei Kung offers a regimen that is difficult and uncomfortable, but it loosens your tendons up and you feel great for the rest of the day. The exercises from Yang Style Taijiquan, by Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming, offer great flexibility without a lot of discomfort, and they seem to have a positive effect on my health. Qigong Empowerment has information on all kinds of Qi Cultivation, even for hard-style martial artists. Other than those, just do whatever your teacher suggests, and don't try too many different kinds of cultivation in any one day.
