Drawing Exercises

where can i find custom paper/ drawing surface for large-scale art project?

i'm going to be making a very large scale drawing, about 7ft high and probably more than 10 feet wide and i don't want to have to put several pieces of paper together. are there any places that sell large pieces or rolls of paper? or does anyone know of any other drawing surfaces that could take charcoal and graphite and could be used in large-scale? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

  1. Everyone I know of who works on large scale pieces of that size pieces them together one way or another. Even rolls of paper are only very long, but about 3' and maybe 4' wide. That said you could email paper manufacturers and see if any has the facilities to accomodate your request. As I think about this, I believe I read in an art catalog that some manufacturer did do such requests. I just can't remember which one. That's only a few emails away, though. Or, even just email the online art wherehouses to see if they know of one. Another way to go is to put together a Masonite piece of that size and gesso it very smooth. You could contact "Ampersand" to see if they do custom orders for that. If your work could be of a temporary nature you could put it on a wall, I have seen even larger pieces painted onto walls of a gallery. There, of course, you would know it would be painted over after the show was over, but lots of photos taken. 2. Maybe try photographer's back-drop paper?
