What's the best paper for drawing/sketching?

...I'm planning to buy an A3 sketchpad for my life drawing class and having looking around at a few shops, I thought I'd gather a few opinions about the best (maybe even cheap?...!) kind of paper to buy. Personally, I like to go for a more rough texture, as it gets more of a connection to the medium I'm using. @clarissa: I'm sure the life drawing model will let me trace her!

  1. a sketchpad works best or, for tracing there those papers u can see through.
  2. Cartridge paper - the thick ones, not too thin like normal paper and not too thick like card. They're popularly used and its got a bit of rough texture to it (like you've requested!). They're in most sketch pads as well. They're good for painting, drawing, and lots of other stuff too. :)
  3. cartrigde - life drawing Layout paper - sketching / designing
  4. if you want a rough surface canvas is the best, as long as you sketch lightly you can rub out and enhance the image. you can get a pack of 3 canvas's in Wilkinson's for about £4 and it is really easy to use and paint on x
