Drawing and paper quality. can i use the back?
i have a pad of canson drawing paper. 220 gsm. i think Ive made the wrong decision and its a bit too rough to draw on for my liking, can i use the back of the paper rather than the right side to draw as it is smoother? ive always been told to use the paper the right way up what is the reason for this?

- can I punch xCaso? hahaha Sorry you've boughten a rougher tooth paper... and yeah you could use the back of the paper. But you are right in knowing that you are "supposed" to use the intended tooth (the right side). Either way, if it works for you. Use it. Good question to ponder: if you haven't used any of it and its pretty much blemish free.. do you still have the receipt? return it for store credit.
- Paper like wood products it comes from has a type of grain as such. The paper rolled off the press in a certain way that might be what you are detecting. Use what ever side you want it is your paper.
- Canson drawing paper. 220 gsm http://www.canson-us.com/ArtistPapersDrawingSketch.asp correct that some papers are treated on one side for specialty use, some both sides, and roughness varies for different mediums used, http://drawsketch.about.com/od/drawingpaper/tp/realistgraphitepapers.htm http://www.clc.com.tw/products/eng_services_encyclo2.asp http://www.paper-paper.com/weight.html http://www.artinstructionblog.com/tag/drawing-values ..
