- Watercolors don't work well on regular paper, because as it dries it makes the paper shrivel.
- news paper gives a creative look and also sanded wax paper.... you can aso visit Michaels Arts and Crafts and get some scrapbooking paper with cool background for a nice effect.
- Regular drawing paper doesn't have the same spread as water color paper. It gets soggy if you use a really wet brush, and the colors don't blend as well. (The latter is MHO.) But, it IS a danged sight less money. Two of my neighbors like using acrylic paints on glass and mirror. Acrylics don't have the translucency and delicacy of watercolors, but you can buy a bunch inexpensively on sale at craft stores like Michael's and Jo-Ann's. If you like something you've done, you can seal it with spray sealer to fix it. If you don't, paint over it.
