  1. I really like Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. You might also find help in classes at a YMCA or YHMA, or what are called continuing education courses, offered at a college or maybe high school, usually outside of regular working hours.
  2. one lesson that improved my drawing of the human figure was to think of body parts as your standard to-go paper coffee cup. so what i did was to take a cup, and draw it in as a many different directions as possible, top view, on its side... if you take a look at fingers and arm, you will see that the basic building block of the body is a standard to-go paper coffee cup. so after sketching the cup for a while i was able to apply what i learned to my figure drawings. as for imagination and creativity, one thing that helps me is to think of a theme, something like 'winter' for instance. then i will do a verbal brainstorm, writing down everything i can related to 'winter'. i will then pick three words that compel me the most, then draw each one individually a few different ways then i will look at the drawings, and figure out how i can integrate them together in drawing. also when your brain is stuck, take a look at other artist work. if you can find drawings done by other artist, take a few and try to duplicate them, pay attention to what type of stroke the artist is using. i hope this helps you, think of drawing as an exercise not as making finished work.
  3. Draw what you like draw what you see.
  4. The book Drawing on The Right Side of the Brain is very good, follow all the lessons. Then get yourself a stack of scrap paper and start drawing anything. You'll throw out 90% of what you do--it's practice to get your hand to do what your mind and eyes tell it to. The more you draw, the better you get. You'll see a huge leap in ability in the first year alone, never fear. Just go out and draw what you see. Draw what you have indoors, draw your pets, draw boxes, anything!
  5. start by simply doodling.... you'll find a spark of something you like, keep modifying it, then add your feelings to it... believe it or not everyone can draw, just keep at it. Plus drawing your feelings on a page can bring surprising results.
